Help Families in Gaza Stay Warm This Winter
As temperatures fall and heavy rain approaches, help displaced Palestinian families access essential winter assistance.
Across Gaza, families are preparing for another winter in tents, makeshift shelters and damaged buildings.
An estimated 1.77 million people are living in displacement sites, while 950,000 displaced people are in locations at medium to high risk of flooding.
For families without secure shelter, winter brings serious challenges. Rain can enter damaged tents, soaking bedding and belongings. Strong winds can damage temporary shelters, while falling temperatures make it harder to stay warm, particularly overnight.
During January, temperatures in Gaza typically fall to around 9°C at night. For families living in tents without adequate bedding or heating, these conditions can pose serious risks.
Families Need Winter Support Now
According to the UN, 1.98 million people in Gaza require shelter and essential household assistance.
More than half of the tents and makeshift shelters assessed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are in poor or very poor condition, leaving families exposed to the approaching rainy season.
Children are particularly vulnerable. UNICEF reported that at least 11 children, including infants, died from hypothermia during the previous winter.
With another winter approaching, families need practical support to help them stay warm and cope with difficult living conditions.
